How are The Cat Society house sitters vetted?
Every house sitter verifies their ID and a proof of address, with a photo of their face, and has a video call with a member of The Cat Society. You then choose for yourself among those who reply to your request, after chatting by message and getting to know each other by video call.
How much does house sitting cost?
Nothing at all. You don’t set a price and you don’t pay the house sitter anything: they stay in your home while you’re away, and that is their reward. The Cat Society doesn’t charge you either, no subscription, no commission, no service fee: posting your request, receiving applications, chatting and booking are free, with no limit.
Does the house sitter really sleep there?
Yes. The house sitter sleeps at your place and keeps your cat company around the clock, for the whole agreed period.
How does the first meeting work?
By video call, right from your space on The Cat Society: the house sitter is often still in another city. A chat by message or a phone call is fine too if you prefer. If you don’t click, you can talk to other house sitters.
Does my home insurance cover a house sitter?
Check that your policy covers a temporary occupant and let your insurer know a house sitter will be staying. The house sitter should have their own liability cover for the home they occupy: ask them before the stay. The Cat Society provides no insurance for your home or belongings.
What happens in a veterinary emergency?
The house sitter lets you know straight away through the messaging and, with your agreement, takes your cat to your usual vet. The costs are yours: you pay the vet directly, or reimburse the house sitter if they paid upfront. The Cat Society takes no commission on these costs.
What if my cat is on medical treatment?
Mention it in your request: pipettes, injections, older, anxious or polydactyl cats. House sitters choose for themselves which requests they reply to, knowing what is involved.
