Everything we get asked most often. Otherwise, write to us.
The Cat Society currently covers Paris and the western inner suburbs: Levallois-Perret, Neuilly-sur-Seine, Clichy, Courbevoie and the neighbouring Paris arrondissements. Our cat sitters are concentrated in this area because we meet every one of them in person before offering them: we only open a city once we have sitters there whom we have actually met. You can check who is available near you on the available cat sitters page, and posting a listing is free even if your area is not covered yet.
Photos are taken with The Cat Society camera, directly in the website or the app, and can never be imported from the phone's gallery. A photo posted in the stay journal is therefore genuinely dated to the moment it was taken: you see your cat as it was that day, not just an illustration. The sitter posts one photo a day, every day of the stay. For home visits, each visit is also time-stamped on arrival and on departure: you see what time they came and how long they stayed. For boarding at the sitter's and house sitting, they are there around the clock, so there is no visit to check in.
Every application goes through an identity check (official ID), a 20-minute interview with our team (in person or by video call), a home visit for sitters who host the cat at their place, and a final approval within 7 days. Around 2 out of 3 applicants are not accepted, because we keep our standards genuinely high.
The owner sets their price, and that is the price they pay. Most owners offer around €13 per day for one daily visit (€24 for two visits), and €13 per night for boarding at the sitter's (€11 per night minimum, whatever the length). Everyone remains free to offer more or less, and pays exactly the amount shown: no commission, no service fee and no bank charge is added on top. The Cat Society commission is included in this price and amounts to 17%, whatever the stay; it is deducted from the payout to the cat sitter, never charged on top to the owner. For House Sitting, the owner sets no price and pays nothing to the sitter, who stays at their home: the stay itself costs nothing, whatever its length, and The Cat Society takes no commission on it. House sitting is entirely free for you: posting your listing, receiving applications, reading them, chatting with cat sitters and booking a stay cost you nothing, with no limit. There is no subscription and no service fee. The cat sitter, for their part, has a subscription with The Cat Society: that is what funds the service. Everything about house sitting.
The amount is charged as soon as you book, but that does not mean it goes to the sitter: it is held by Stripe. The sitter is paid at the end of the stay, when you confirm that everything went well, or automatically 3 days after the end if you do nothing. If you cancel in the meantime, you get a full refund.
The Cat Society screens sitters beforehand (verified identity, interview, manual approval) to reduce the risks. Your payment stays held by The Cat Society and is only paid out to the sitter once the stay is over and approved: if something is wrong when you get back, our team can step in before any payout. You can contact them at any time via the in-app chat.
Yes, at any time and free of charge, including on the day of the stay itself. You get a full refund, and nothing is withheld whatever the notice. The refund is issued within 5 to 10 business days to the original payment method. If the sitter is the one who cancels, you also get a full refund and the listing is automatically put back online.
Yes, and both roles are switched on from your profile. Many of our sitters have a cat themselves and turn to the community when they are away. There is just one caveat: if a cat already lives with you, you can do home visits, but not host a cat at your place. First, because we rule out any risk of transmission between two cats who would share a litter tray and bowls. Second, because getting along cannot be ordered: two cats who never asked for each other end up either friends for life or locked in two weeks of cold war on either side of the hallway, each one camped on its own radiator. Nobody can tell in advance, and their owner's holiday is not the best time to find out.
