Entrusting your cat means entrusting a member of the family. At The Cat Society, every sitting relies on sitters verified in person, protected payment, a photo journal of the sitting and a team you can reach every day. Here is how we protect you, at every step.

The Cat Society rule

Your cat is the only guest

When a sitter agrees to host your cat at their place, or to move into yours, The Cat Society stops them from accepting a second sitting of this kind on the same dates. Your cat is never shut in with a stranger's cat, and nobody promises to sleep in two flats on the same night.

  • Only one household hosted at a time, never two in parallel.
  • No living with unfamiliar cats, no cattery in disguise.
  • This is not a promise on their honour: The Cat Society enforces the refusal at the time of booking.

Sitters verified in person

Identity verified via Stripe Identity, then a one-to-one interview with the founder. No profile gets here without being seen by a real person.

Payment held and secure

You pay when you book, but the money only goes to the sitter once your cat is back with you and you have confirmed the sitting on your side.

Daily sitting journal

Time-stamped photos and news every day. You can keep an eye on your cat, even from the other side of the world.

Live photo, time-stamped and geotagged

No uploads possible: the photo is taken on the spot, at that very moment, from the app.

We know exactly who is looking after your cat

Becoming a The Cat Society sitter doesn't happen in one click. Every application goes through a real human filter before hosting a cat. Nothing is automatic: we check, we meet, we confirm.

  • Identity verified via Stripe Identity, an official ID document and a photo of the face compared with the document.
  • Phone number verified by confirmation code.
  • Met in person or by video call by the Cat Society team before any introduction.
  • Contact details, address and trusted contact confirmed.
  • Rated by owners after every sitting, on an ongoing basis.

About 2 in 3 applicants are not accepted. We keep our standards genuinely high.

Vet fees

Vet care, always with your consent

A cat can need the vet just when you least expect it. The sitter has your cat's profile to hand and the contact details of your usual vet.

  • You are told straight away. If there is a health issue, the sitter messages you and only takes your cat to the vet with your agreement, except in a life-threatening emergency.
  • Nothing is held or charged in advance. No amount is held on your card at booking for possible care.
  • You pay directly. The fees remain yours to pay: you pay the vet, or you reimburse the sitter if they paid upfront, on presentation of the invoice.

Neither insurance nor an advance from The Cat Society: vet fees do not go through the platform, and The Cat Society takes nothing from them.

Protected payment

Your money is held until the end of the sitting

On The Cat Society, no payment changes hands directly. Everything is handled securely by Stripe, the global standard for online payment.

  • You pay when you book, in an encrypted environment. Your bank details never pass through The Cat Society.
  • The amount is kept safe and only released to the sitter once your cat is back with you and you have confirmed the sitting on your side.
  • A problem when you get back? As long as you haven't confirmed, the money is still there and our team can step in before any payout.
  • Flexible cancellation: free right up to the last minute. Things come up, we understand.

Real-time updates

Stay in touch, wherever you are

Leaving with peace of mind means being able to check in whenever you like. The Cat Society keeps you connected to your cat throughout the sitting.

  • Time-stamped sitting journal: news and photos posted every day by the sitter.
  • A photo taken live every day: captured in the moment with The Cat Society camera (website and app alike), never uploaded from the gallery. So it is genuinely dated that day: you see your cat as they are today, with their sitter.
  • For home visits, the arrival and departure time of each visit: the sitter checks in on arrival with the photo and checks out when leaving. You see what time they came and how long they stayed with your cat, visit after visit.
  • Built-in messaging and video calls: chat in writing or start a video call with the sitter right in The Cat Society, at any time. Everything happens in one place, simply.

Privacy

Your address stays at home

Privacy is part of safety. On The Cat Society, your exact address is never made public, and neither is the sitter's.

  • Only the city (including the arrondissement in Paris) is visible in listings.
  • Your precise address is never shared.
  • We never sell your data. The Cat Society is strictly GDPR compliant.
